BrainBank Learning (BBL) is a web based learning tool for the construction of individual concept maps (Topic Maps). The application is developed and inspired by constructivist learning theory and has as its intention to develop meaningful learning and good learning strategies. The tool is developed by Cerpus AS over a three year period on basis of empirical testing in schools.
The pupils work in the application using standard web browsers, and have their own individual accounts in the application. There is also an special interface for teachers that allow for the setting up of courses and groups under which pupils can be grouped. Concepts (topics) the pupil encounters in school are entered and described in BBL, which then can be associated to each other by creating or reusing meaningful typed associations. This way, the pupil constructs her own personal network of concepts and associations, a topic map, which in the end can be seen as a holistic representation of the pupil's knowledge.
